Fly Tying Course

TU Seth Green Introduction to Fly Tying

This course is intended to teach a novice or beginner to fly tying, how to tie well proportioned and well constructed fishing flies for trout fishing. The course will consist of seven 2 hour teaching sessions and one 2 hour review session. During the review session a student may ask for a demonstration of a technique not covered during the teaching sessions.

Topics to be covered are:

  • How to select the proper fish hook for most flies.
  • The proper use of the appropriate tools used in fly tying.
  • Material selection and handling for and during fly tying
  • The processes used to tie well proportioned, well constructed flies.

Students will tie their own flies during the class. Materials for tying the flies taught in will be provided for THE FIRST CLASS ONLY. Students will provide their own tools, as well as materials for remaining classes. The instructor will demonstrate each fly and provide assistance for the students while they are tying the same fly in class.

Certain tools are required for the course and they can be found at your local fly shops or at any Gander Mountain location.

  • Scissors Medium
  • 6/0 Black Thread

Registration:
The minimum age for the class is 12 yrs old.
The maximum class size is 12 students.
Registration is first come first serve.
Cost $65.00 (paid to Pittsford Dept. of Recreation and Technology) before the first class.
