Finishing the Fly
Finishing the fly
Form a head on the fly by building up a small ball of thread.
Tie a whip finish know to tie off the thread. You may do this using a commercial whip finishing tool (several types are available) or by using your fingers. . (You may optionally use a series of half-hitch knots, but they are not as strong.)
Cut the thread
You may optionally put a drop of head cement on the head to give the fly a little more strength (keep the fish from cutting the thread with their teeth).
Finished wet fly
CONGRATULATIONS! You’ve just finished with your first fly!! Now practice tying it until they start looking the same, time after time. Then take it out on the stream and see what you can catch with it!!
